Crochet Bow
A simple repeating row pattern to make a bow โ perfect for hair clips, headbands, or attached to your teddy bear!
Beginner
Materials
- Yarn: Your color of choice
- Hook: Corresponding size for yarn
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Rubber band or hair clip (optional, for attachment)
Abbreviations
ch โ chain
sl st โ slip stitch
hdc โ half double crochet
BLO โ back loop only
F.o. โ fasten off
Instructions
Step 1 โ Foundation
- Start with a slip knot.
- Chain 45 stitches.
Step 2 โ Row Pattern
Skip the first chain and work into the second chain. Work the following sequence across every row:
| Segment | Stitch | Count |
| 1 | Half-Double Crochet | 6 hdc |
| 2 | Slip Stitch | 5 sl st |
| 3 | Half-Double Crochet | 9 hdc |
| 4 | Slip Stitch | 5 sl st |
| 5 | Half-Double Crochet | 9 hdc |
| 6 | Slip Stitch | 5 sl st |
| 7 | Half-Double Crochet | 6 hdc |
๐ก Total stitches per row: 6 + 5 + 9 + 5 + 9 + 5 + 6 = 45
Step 3 โ Repeating the Pattern
- At the end of each row, ch 1 and turn your work.
- For all rows after the first, work into the back loops only (BLO) โ this creates the bow's texture.
- Repeat the row sequence for as many rounds as desired. 3 rows total is recommended for a classic bow thickness.
Step 4 โ Assembly
- Fasten off and weave in your ends.
- Fold the piece so the slip-stitch sections overlap, forming the bow shape.
- Use a separate piece of yarn to wrap tightly around the center of the bow and secure with a knot.
- Attach to a hair clip, rubber band, or sew directly onto your teddy bear. ๐งธ
